The Wetland Vulnerability Analysis (WVA) was hosted by the Department of Geomatics and Land Management at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. This workshop served as a preconference event for the 7th Advances in Geomatics Research Conference held on 14th and 15th, August 2023. The workshop foundation is the successful implementation of the WVA service within the GMES and Africa Program, facilitated by the African Union and executed by the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD).
Over the course of two days, the workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge and technical skills related to Earth observation technologies and services for Wetland Vulnerability Monitoring and Assessment. This knowledge is crucial to fostering sustainable, long-term management of wetland resources across Africa.
The training approach encompassed both physical and online participation, attracting attendees from 21 countries spanning Africa, the United States, Europe, and Asia. Specifically, the workshop gathered 45 participants (30 Males and 15 Females) in person from Uganda, while an additional 150 (103 Males and 47 Females) participants joined virtually from countries such as

The mode of learning included group exercises, lectures and discussions. Participants learnt the following at the workshop
1. Application of EO tools, methods and data in Wetland Vulnerability Monitoring and Assessment
2. Visualization and Interpretation Outputs of Wetland Vulnerability Assessment
3. Use Wetland Vulnerability Analysis Tool in Wetland Monitoring and Assessment
